The City Council is committed to maintaining long-term support for those affected by DANA

Àngels Soria, councilor Teixit Associative, Cooperation and Participation

Martorell Town Council has made an Institutional Declaration guaranteeing that it will continue to support and coordinate aid from our home towards those affected by DANA. It was last night, in the Municipal meeting corresponding to the month of November. The manifesto also highlights the offer of “any support or help that the most affected councils may need in the future”.

“When the mud dries up, when the water recedes, roads can be conditioned and homes, bridges and infrastructure rebuilt, as well as reactivating economic and commercial activity in the affected areas, this City Council and its population will continue with his commitment”. This is the final conclusion and the will towards citizens and councils of the Valencian Community, Castilla-la-Manxa and Andalusia affected by the DANA.

Àngels Soria, councilor of Teixit Associatiu, Cooperation and Participation, read the manifesto, which defends unity in the face of the catastrophe and which shows solidarity “with the relatives of victims and missing persons, those who have lost their homes or those who they have been forced to abandon it”.

It also calls “to implement declarations and aid plans so that the affected people can restore their lives”. And he values ”the irreplaceable work of Civil Protection and emergencies, NGOs, health professionals, the media and everyone” who voluntarily contributed to reducing the temporary consequences of the catastrophe.

The Declaration appreciates the work of volunteers and displaced people, and gives councils “to make arrangements, request insurance compensation, aid and subsidies and any support or help that may be needed in the future”.

Soria praised the role “of all the solidarity citizens who have participated, directly or indirectly, in the collection of material”, of security forces, organizations and individuals who have cleaned, rescued, recovered vehicles and made financial contributions. And he was grateful for the work of the six Local Police volunteers sent to the Valencian Country to do patrolling, security and cleaning tasks.

At the same time, he recalled that “it will be necessary to help both in the short and long term”, and that from his Council and the entire City Council will continue to give “support and coordination to all the initiatives that come out of Martorell”. A work that is now focused on the cleaning and reconstruction of the territory, but which will later have to be overturned with “the reactivation of trade and economic activity, and of the cultural, associative and sports fabric”.

Soria advised everyone who wants to make a financial contribution “to never make it in cash to uniformed people walking down the street. The risk of fraud is very high”, and that it is by transfer to account numbers of organizations such as the Red Cross or Caritas. This allows “to carry out appropriate control, monitoring, transparency and traceability”.

He also recalled that “right now not all the affected areas can manage the avalanche of material that reaches them” and that it is better “to make it arrive in a coordinated and organized way. If someone wants to make a collection, it is necessary to inform the Council to coordinate the delivery”.

He praised “the enormous wave of solidarity from everywhere, very exciting” and at the same time expressed condemnation “for the negligence of not foreseeing the consequences of the flood”. He asked “that responsibilities be cleared, that the experts who were warning us be listened to, and that more heed be paid to the alerts so that it does not happen again”.
