The City of Belgrade is launching a comprehensive security inspection of public spaces

City services in Belgrade will conduct a detailed inspection of all public spaces and buildings owned by the city in the coming days in order to assess their level of security. Belgrade’s chief urban planner Marko Stojčić announced that expert teams will visit key locations and assess whether there are facilities that pose a risk to citizens and that may need to be closed or restricted for use.

The area of ​​Bezistan has priority for security assessmentwhich has been in a very bad condition for years, Beoinfo reported.

Bezistan, which is located between Terazi and Nikola Pašić Square, is facing significant problems such as the deterioration of the facade and crowning, which is why citizens have expressed their concern on several occasions. Although it is occasionally cordoned off to protect passers-by, pedestrians still use it regularly.

Although it was previously planned to rebuild Bezistan as part of the reconstruction of Nikola Pašić Square, the project was stopped due to unresolved property and legal issues related to this location.

The chief urban planner appealed to citizens and institutions to be responsible and to report every facility or space on the territory of Belgrade that they can endanger the safety of the population competent inspections.
