According to the bill, not only citizens of Russia and Belarus will lose the right to vote in municipal elections, but also of all countries outside the European Union and NATO, reports rus.err.ee.

According to the bill, paragraph 2 of Article 156 of the Constitution of the Republic of Estonia will be formulated as follows: “Citizens of Estonia, stateless persons, citizens of the European Union and citizens of NATO countries who have reached the age of 16 have the right to vote in elections to local government councils under the conditions established by law. The conditions and procedure for including stateless persons and foreigners with the right to vote in the voter lists are determined by law.”

Of the deputies representing the ruling coalition, the bill does not bear the signatures of Hele Everaus (Reform Party), Helmen Kütt, Eduard Odinets, Heljo Piekhof, Reilly Rand and Tanel Kiik (Social Democratic Party).

If the law is adopted, the number of residents eligible to vote in local government elections will be reduced by approximately 72,000 people, according to the explanatory note to the bill.
