CCR received, on Wednesday, two requests to cancel the first round of the presidential elections. The requests were submitted by two candidates, respectively Cristian Terheş and Sebastian Constantin Popescu.
He was supposed to decide on Thursday, but the decision was postponed until Friday, with the CCR announcing that it would issue a statement.

“The Constitutional Court annuls the elections if the voting and the determination of the results took place through fraud in such a way as to modify the assignment of the mandate or, as the case may be, the order of candidates who can participate in the second round of voting. In this situation, the Court will order the repeat of the voting round on the second Sunday from the date of the annulment of the elections”, according to Law 37/2004 on the election of the President of Romania.
The request to cancel the elections can be made by political parties, political alliances, electoral alliances, organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities represented in the Council of National Minorities and by candidates who participated in the elections, within no more than 3 days from the close of voting.
