BANJALUKA – Maize on deep soils in Republika Srpska is resisting drought for now, but it is certain that, if extremely high temperatures continue, dry air and soil will have consequences for the yield of this cereal, said Stojan Marinković, president of the Association of Agricultural Producers of Srpska.

Marinković pointed out that there will certainly be burns on vegetable and fruit crops, especially outdoors where they are exposed to high insolation due to the action of the sun’s rays.

This will reduce their qualityMarinković stated.

He added that on shallow soils, of which there are most, even watering does not help much.

This only gives farmers hope that the fruits will grow until a serious drop in temperature and the first rain, where these crops could survive and give a more or less satisfactory yield.Marinković said.

In the agro-bulletin for the past seven days, it was stated that thanks to the rainfall from the previous weeks, there is currently still a supply of moisture in the soil, but that in the coming period, more abundant rainfall is needed in order for agricultural crops to have more favorable conditions for development, especially corn.
