The country significantly reduced the list of lands suitable for peat mining

The Ministry of Climate has updated the list of areas potentially suitable for peat mining, removing 229 areas or 117,934 hectares of bogs. In Lääne County, there are peat areas suitable for mining in the four peat deposits of Laiküla, the three peat deposits of Niibi and the Turvalepa peat bog.

The updated list now includes 83 peat areas or deposits with a total area of ​​24,494 hectares, where it is possible to extract peat or submit an application for extraction.
