Sunny and unusually warm weather is expected in the Northern capital on the last day of the working week. This was reported by the leading specialist of the Phobos weather center, Mikhail Leus.
According to him, the anomalous heat was brought to the city by the ridge of the anticyclone intensifying from the southwest. Under its influence, the probability of precipitation in St. Petersburg will decrease to a minimum, and the temperature background will remain significantly above the climate norm, the meteorologist pointed out.
Leus clarified that the thermometers in St. Petersburg on Friday, January 17, will show from plus two to plus four degrees, and in the Leningrad region it will warm up to plus five. At the same time, a westerly wind and high atmospheric pressure are predicted in the region – 763 mm Hg. Art. The forecaster added that barometer readings will begin to drop later in the evening.
Gusty westerly winds will continue in St. Petersburg on Saturday, January 18. Leus warned that in such conditions the water level in the Neva is likely to rise.
For his part, the head of the St. Petersburg Hydrometeorological Center, Alexander Kolesov, noted that thanks to rapidly changing atmospheric processes, city residents will today see the sun, which was hidden behind the clouds for 12 days in a row.
Earlier, meteorologist Alexander Shuvalov promised St. Petersburg residents a rapid cold snap next week.
