Collins Jumaisi Khalusha was arrested by Kenyan police and said he had killed 42 women in recent years, with 9 dismembered bodies found.
Confidence in law enforcement was already in question after recent protests and crackdowns before the bodies were discovered near a police station.
The remains were discovered in a quarry in the Mukuru slums of Nairobi.
The head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Mohamed Amin, said Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, 33, confessed to killing 42 women, including his wife, starting in 2022.
“It crystallizes that we are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life,” Amin added.
Khalusha is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
On Friday, one of the bodies recovered was rumored to be male, but on Monday police said all nine bodies found so far were female.
The last alleged murder took place on July 11.
Police said they found several cellphones, ID cards, a machete believed to have been used to cut the victims, industrial rubber gloves, rolls of Sellotape and a dozen similar nylon bags at Khalusha’s home. with those in which the victims were found, according to Sky News.
The watchdog added that all the bodies had “visible signs of torture and mutilation”.
Dozens of deaths have occurred in Kenya following anti-government protests in recent weeks.
