The CZSO will publish the September estimate of this year’s harvest of cereals, rapeseed and potatoes

Prague – The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) will publish the September estimate of this year’s harvest today. It will inform not only about the harvest of cereals and rape, but also about corn, potatoes, sugar beets or sunflowers. In the last, July estimate, statisticians assumed a below-average harvest of cereals and rapeseed.

The Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic reported at the end of August that farmers harvested 6.75 million tons of cereals this year, which is the second worst harvest in the last 12 years. The rapeseed harvest reached 950,000 tons, the lowest since 2003. According to the Chamber, unusual weather fluctuations had a negative impact on the results.

The potato harvest was also affected by the weather, which was delayed due to recent rains. The Czech Potato Association expects it only this week. According to the chairman of the union, Josef Králíček, there will be more domestic potatoes compared to last year’s weaker harvest, even though the September rains and floods may have worsened their quality.
