The Dacia Sandero is only a few days away from the title of the best-selling European car

Before we summarize European sales for 2024 in January, we’ll look at the numbers for the past 11 months. In this period, about 100,000 new cars were registered more than last year. Dacia Sandero is the unquestionable market leader, ahead of VW Golf and Renault Cli.

In recent years, the VW Golf has not had the strength it once had to maintain its leading position in Europe. Golf is near the top, but customers have changed their habits, he writes Klix.ba.

In 2022, Europeans trusted the Peugeot 208 the most, last year for the first time an electric model – the Tesla Model Y, and this year it will be the modest Dacia Sandero.

In 11 months, Romanians sold more than 245,000 Sanders on the European continent, which is 14 percent more than last year in the same period. The Golf is an excellent second with close to 199,000 units sold, and the Clio third with 3,000 registered units less than the German king. Golf recorded a growth of 20 and Clio nine percent in 11 months of this year compared to the same period last year.

Interestingly, Dacia has two models among the top 10 in Europe. Namely, the excellent Duster made it onto this list ahead of the Kia Sportage.

Although it is recording 20 percent less sales this year, the Tesla Model Y with more than 180,000 registered models is very high in the overall ranking. At the same time, it is by far the best-selling electric car in Europe.

Europe sells

Of the Chinese brands, it should be noted that MG is by far the best-selling brand. In 11 months (225,000 registered vehicles), they delivered only 5,000 cars less than in the whole of last year. As expected, more than a third of sales were realized at the expense of the affordable SUV ZS.

Among the brands, Volkswagen is the only one with more than one million vehicles sold (1.25 million vehicles sold) and a slight growth of 1.3 percent, Toyota is second with 849,628 registrations and a much larger growth of 11.3 percent, while BMW is third with 707,527 copies sold and a growth of 7.8 percent. Škoda firmly holds the fourth position with slightly more than 700,000 vehicles delivered in 11 months, which represents a huge growth of even 12 percent.

In terms of powertrains, hybrids are the leaders for the third month in a row with a share of 33.2 percent, ahead of gasoline models with 29.7 percent and electric models with a 17.5 percent market share.
