The echoes of what happened at the match Romania – Kosovo, which took place on Friday, November 15, and counted for stage 5 of Group C2 of the League of Nations, also reached Denmark.
The match between Romania and Kosovo was suspended about 90 seconds before the end of extra time due to the visitors leaving the pitch.
What the Danish press wrote about the tragedy experienced by referee Morten Krogh, in Romania – Kosovo
The final result of the match Romania – Kosovo will be decided, most likely, by UEFA, at the “green table”. The game that took place on November 15at the National Arena, in stage 5 of Group B of the League of Nations, was suspended.
About 90 seconds before the end of the 4 minutes of overtime, the Kosovar players left the field, at the urging of captain Amir Rrahmani. They went to the dressing room and refused to return to the pitch, despite being talked to by the Danish referee Morten Krogh. The Danish press could not ignore the incident.
“Friday night, Morten Krogh was involved in a drama. The visitors from Kosovo opted to leave the match in the 93rd minute, when the match was still 0-0, and never came back. The Romanian players stayed on the field for an hour, but the national team from Kosovo never returned to the field.
The players from Kosovo later said that they chose to leave the field, as the Romanian fans repeatedly shouted ‘Serbia, Serbia’.
Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, but Romania is one of the countries that still does not recognize the country’s independence.
While the Romanian players were waiting in the cold, the Kosovars received pizza and did not plan to return”, wrote the Danes from tipsbladet.dk.
Lupescu does not know what the people from Kosovo had in mind when they refused to play
IonuČ› Lupescu, UEFA technical consultant, said how things stand in this casefrom the point of view of those from the continental forum. He predicts that our country’s national team will win 3-0 on the “green table”.
“The chanting “Serbia, Serbia”, which was heard echoing from the lawn towards the end, is no longer interpreted by UEFA as discrimination. And as far as I know, the Kosovo federation was informed about this in advance.
Also, to get to abandoning the game, you have to go through three stages according to the official procedures. But they immediately left the lawn and never returned. The verdict depends on what the observer and referee wrote in the report. Video sequences will probably be viewed. But I don’t see any reason for Romania not to receive a match won 3-0.
I don’t know what the people from Kosovo had in mind when they refused to play anymore. I thought it was a challenge on their part. I expected Amir Rrahmani, the captain, to have a different attitude. But that’s the Balkan mentality, unfortunately,” said IonuČ› Lupescu, quoted by gsp.ro.
