The first man of Szentendre, Zsolt Fülöp, held an extraordinary press conference on the banks of the flooded Danube and told the country’s public to avoid Szentendre, especially the banks of the Danube, as tourists these days.
THE CITY CENTER IS NO LONGER CLOSED TO VEHICLE TRAFFIC, BUT ALSO TO PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE TRAFFIC, AND IN THE PARTS OF THE CITY NEAR THE COAST YOU CAN ONLY TRAVEL WITH A RESIDENCE CARD.
Szentendre is prepared
The mayor said that they are ready with flood protection in Szentendré.
Of course, there may be surprises, but we are prepared for them as well
– he said, and thanked the defense forces, the police, disaster management and the many volunteers for their help in defense, without whom, as he said, the city would certainly not be ready to receive the flood.
Tourists should go elsewhere now
Zsolt Fülöp asked the lovers of the small town not to plan an exceptional trip to Szentendre and not to obstruct the flood protection on the Danube embankment, not least because the bicycle path in Szentendre that runs along the dam has also been closed to traffic, i.e.
DO NOT CYCLE THE DANUBE BEND AND SZENTENDRE.
The brigade of work will begin after the summit
István Gresz, a commissioned employee of the National Directorate General of Water, added to all this that the mobile dam in Szentendre, built in 2013, fulfills its role in a great way and protects the city.
Thus, there is nothing special to do at this stage, only a monitoring service is required
– said the water specialist, adding at the same time that he is asking the residents of the city to report any suspicious phenomena, such as water flows or leaks, because several water specialists are waiting for the public’s signals, and the cases will be quickly investigated, and if action is taken if necessary, they will do it immediately.
He emphasized that the real work will only begin after the summit, since
THE MAXIMUM WATER LEVEL IS EXPECTED TO DROP SLOWLY, SO THE DAMS MAY GET WETTED AND LEAK DUE TO THE LONGER LOAD.
At the moment, the water level of the Danube is around 680 centimeters, and the expected peak will be around 750 centimeters from Friday to Saturday, after which the subsidence will last for several days.
The climax is not a brief moment
The flood peak lasts for about 3-4 days and
THE REAL CHALLENGE ACTUALLY MEANS LOWERING,
because at that time the protection works were already under load for several days, and problems could arise due to the flooding of the embankments – said the water specialist, who also spoke about the fact that the flood is obviously an exciting thing, but
believe me, we are all better off if this flood is only seen on television or in photographs.
Highway 11 is in danger
Mayor Zsolt Fülöp added to all of this by saying that in Szentendré, the Ady Endre road is the protective structure itself, which borders the lowest area, with a length of about 300 meters, and the road is protected there with sandbags.
Also, highway 11 performs a similar function, although
we think of it as a road rather than the road being on the defense anyway.
At the same time, there are unprotected points on the Szentendre section of highway 11, where sandbag protection is necessary, but
THE SZENTENDRE SECTION OF HIGHWAY 11 WILL REMAIN SAFE ALL THE WAY TO LEÁNYFALU
said the mayor
Drinking water supply is provided
Zsolt Fülöp also said that he is in constant consultation with the Regional Water Works along the Danube, and
BOTH DRINKING WATER SUPPLY AND SEWAGE DISPOSAL ARE SOLVED IN THE AREA.
The DMRV regularly monitors its wells, and the capacity of wells that have been shut down due to flooding is replaced by wells not affected by the flood, i.e. the
THE WATER PROVIDER HAS ASSURED THE RESIDENTS OF SZENTENDRE AND THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE VICINITY OF SZENTENDRE THAT THE DRINKING WATER SUPPLY IN THE AREA IS CONTINUOUS AND SAFE.
