The personal data of all Russians has already leaked to the Internet and is on the darknet, said the head of Rostelecom, Mikhail Oseevsky, at the conference “Customer Safety Comes First.” According to him, the attackers have collected large-scale databases containing detailed information about every citizen of the Russian Federation. A similar opinion was previously expressed by Vladimir Dryukov, head of the Solar JSOC cyberattack countermeasure center at Solar. According to him, hackers already have a database covering almost the entire population of Russia. Its formation was made possible thanks to numerous leaks that have occurred over the past years. Such information is actively used by attackers for targeted cyber attacks, sending phishing emails and blackmail, which creates serious threats for both citizens and organizations.
In October of this year, Vedomosti reported that over 9 months, 210 databases with information from clients of Russian companies were posted on shadow Internet forums and Telegram channels. According to FACCT, a total of 250.5 million lines of information were compromised, an increase of 7.76% compared to the same period last year.
As experts note, attackers are especially interested in databases containing full names, passport data, dates of birth, telephone numbers, IP addresses, passwords, places of work, residential addresses and email addresses of Russians. Experts emphasize that one of the reasons for the increase in the number of data leaks is the insufficient attention of companies to modernizing security systems. The use of outdated technologies, weak encryption protocols and lack of strict access control to sensitive information are contributing to the rise in cyber attacks.
