The defense tax will be burdensome but temporary

According to Margus Tsahkna, chairman of the Estonia 200 party, the defence tax will be introduced for a limited period, probably until the next parliamentary elections in 2027, reports rus.err.ee.

He noted that last week the coalition worked through all the topics of the agreement, but “serious negotiations are only really beginning now.”

“The focus is on very difficult decisions in the formation of the state budget. The defense tax will be a serious tax burden for society. The defense tax is supposed to be multi-component, and its main idea is that all groups of society will contribute to the financing of defense and, in the broad sense of the word, security, each depending on their income level,” Tsakhkna said.

However, the tax is planned to be introduced on a temporary basis.

“The second important point is that the defence tax will be introduced for a period of time, that is, it will have a start and end date, probably for a period of three years or less, until March 2027, when the next elections will take place,” the leader of Eesti 200 said.
