The design exhibition in Olomouc is decorated with the shoes of famous actresses of the First Republic

Olomouc – The shoes of Lída Baarová, Adina Mandlová, Zita Kabátová or Věra Ferbasová will be decorating the design exhibition in Olomouc’s Cafe New One from today. The unique collection of the Czech collector Lubor Obendrauf, which offers a retro look into the last century in the form of unique shoes and pumps, is supplemented with current trends by talented Czech designers and shoe manufacturers. The exhibition also offers metal sculptures by the Olomouc sculptor Jan Dostál or products from the design studios of Czech universities, Pavel Vyslužík told ČTK on behalf of the organizer. The exhibition is part of the Design Days festival in Olomouc.

The Design Olomouc exhibition is being held for the second time. “We want to show the people of the region what interesting things are happening in the field of design throughout the country. That’s why there are, for example, interesting works from the Designblok from Prague, which took place at the beginning of October, there are also local artists, and one section of the exhibition is dedicated to old and new shoes,” said Vyslužil.

Visitors to the exhibition will thus be treated to a retro look into the last century in the form of unique shoes and pumps that were created in shoemakers’ workshops in the Czechoslovak Republic. “For example, Ema Destinnová’s never-before-exhibited shoes are on display, Adina Mandlová, Lída Baarová and Věra Ferbasová also have their shoes here. The unique collection of the Czech collector Lubor Obendrauf has never been exhibited in this form,” added the organizer of the event. The collector, who focuses on women’s fashion, walking and luxury shoes, has more than 2,500 often unique pairs in his depositories.

Current footwear trends are represented at the exhibition, for example, by the Czech designer and shoe manufacturer Martin Brno, who makes shoes for, for example, President Petr Pavel. Together with Jan Dostál, they also created shoes for the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution with Czech symbols and steel keys. “The shoes of young Zlín designers from the footwear studio of the University of Bať are also represented, the soles of which are printed on a 3D printer. There is also an eco-brand Kave from Holešov, which makes shoes from recycled shoes,” added Vyslužil.

The footwear part of the exhibition is complemented by design products from a number of industries, for example the collection of the Industrial Design Studio of the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín, created from long-term cooperation with Plastia, is on display. “On display are teapots that have traveled the world, were at the Expo in Dubai, and there is also a fresh collection from Designblok in Prague,” studio representative Martin Surman told ČTK.

Olomouc sculptor Jan Dostál is also represented at the exhibition with his exhibits, his cross with a nine-kilogram crystal, which was recently mounted on the top of the tower of the opposite Red Church, can be viewed up close from the window by means of biathlon binoculars. The design show is also complemented by Jakub Jurka’s Olympic clothing, the author of which is fashion designer Jan Černý, the new collection of Czech Prim watches or the design of a column drill from První Hanácké BOW. The exhibition will be open until November 16, and will be accompanied by workshops.
