The Hungarian astronaut program is now at a level, the next phase is coming.
The HUNOR Hungarian Astronaut Program has completed the domestic evaluation of the scientific portfolio, thus selecting the experiments and developments that Hungarian research astronaut Tibor Kapu will carry out on the International Space Station (ISS). However, final approval is still needed from NASA, which allows each experiment to be carried out aboard the ISS.
The pre-approved portfolio includes more than 35 different scientific and technological activities, including technological developments and outreach tasks.
Development engineer Tibor Kapu is expected to travel to the ISS in the spring of 2025, as part of the Axiom Space Ax-4 mission. The mission commander will be Peggy Whitson, a NASA astronaut on the ISS with significant spaceflight experience, and the team will be piloted by Shubhanshu Shukla, an Indian pilot. In addition to Kapu, the Polish Sławosz Uznański is also participating in the mission as a research astronaut.
Before launch, the research and experiments to be carried out will be presented in detail, as soon as NASA has officially approved the portfolio.
