About the fire at Totorių st. in the KAM building, an emergency call was made at 7:12 a.m. – not the main ones, but from St. The door leading to the building on the side of Ignotos street.
Head of the Situation Coordination Department of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department. specialist Miroslavas Gerasimovičius 15min informed that the message was received after the fire alarm was triggered.
“07.12 a.m. it was reported that the fire alarm had been triggered in the building of the Ministry of National Defense, upon arrival the premises were smoke-filled, the unused wooden door from the courtyard side, and the plastic paneling – the ceiling – were on fire,” informed the PAGD representative.
Police department representative Ramūnas Matonis 15min informed that the person suspected of setting the door on fire was also arrested.
“There is a person who allegedly set fire to that door, he is in custody. He was born in 1984”, said R. Matonis.
According to officials, the person behaved inappropriately.
R. Matonis could not yet say whether the detainee is known to the police.
According to the PAGD representative, 5 tankers, a car ladder and a headquarters car were sent to extinguish the fire.
The fire was extinguished at 7:57 a.m.
“The firefighters have already left, the investigators should still be on the spot, they are investigating the situation,” asserted M. Gerasimovičius.
L. Kasčiūnas: we will wait for answers from the officials
The Minister of National Defense, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, says that he only knows primary information so far – he is in no hurry to assess the possible motives of the arsonist and urges him to wait for information from the officials.
“All I know is that there was an attempt to set fire to the door from St. side of Ignotos street, not the main entrance of the building and we know that a person has been detained. We will find out what the motives are – for now, let’s wait, the investigation will show. The most important thing is that the person has been arrested and the fire has been neutralized,” the minister emphasized.
