Microsoft offers access to Recall, which takes pictures of users’ Windows activities, albeit with strict restrictions.
It doesn’t have a very good press, but Microsoft assigns a prominent role to the Recall function, which has already been withdrawn once, in the promotion of Windows 11 and Copilot+ PCs. After spending the past few months, they say, making the screenshot maker Recall safer to use, the Redmonds thought it was time for a live test.
In practice, this means on the developer channel feature is now available for the participants of the Windows Insider program, but there is one important condition for trying it, which the majority of potential users certainly do not yet meet: it requires a Copilot+ laptop equipped with a Snapdragon chip.
Recall, which was introduced in May, is one of the AI functions that Microsoft thinks is attractive to customers, which basically records all our activities in Windows 11. Screen saves can be used later to retrieve whatever you were working on earlier, and the process is aided by an easy-to-view timeline. With the latter, we can jump to an arbitrary time to see what websites, applications, and files we opened at that time.
In response to security concerns, Microsoft modified the function so that the images are not uploaded to the cloud, are not sent to Microsoft (the company cannot use them for AI training) or to third parties. , for bank card details. Everything stays on our machine, encrypted.
It is not yet known when the stable version of Recall will reach a wider audience, but it is unlikely before 2025. In the next round, the people of Redmond will also include Copilot+ PCs based on AMD and Intel chips in the testing of the preview version. In the meantime, those who feel like experimenting with it can also try another novelty, which happens to be based on this function.
Click to Do works on a principle similar to Google’s circled search, it can interpret the snapshots taken by Recall, as well as the text on them. With its help, you can edit images, but you can also start a search in Bing. Currently, Recall and Click to Do are still inseparable, but eventually they will work independently, according to Microsoft’s promise.
