A new political party achieved a victory in the Chamber of Deputies after being recognized in plenary on Tuesday, September 3rd. It is about the formation Justice and Respect in Europe for All (DREPT), led by former independent MEP Vlad Gheorghe, and includes 10 deputies from USR, AUR and PNL.

Deputy Ion-Marian Lazăr announced, in plenary, that it is not about the establishment of a parliamentary group, the request considering the notification of the Permanent Electoral Authority.

“I would like to inform you that as of yesterday, September 2, at 2:00 p.m., the proof of the membership of 10 deputies to the Party of Justice and Respect in Europe for All (DREPT) was submitted to the General Secretariat. (…) The evidence was submitted yesterday and is effective from this moment. Therefore, I request you to notify the AEP in this sense in order to apply the provision of art. 118 index 1 of Law 208/2015 on the representation of parliamentary political parties in electoral offices. I emphasize that this is not a request to establish a parliamentary group, but a request to notify AEP that DREPT, according to the law, is a parliamentary party”, declared the deputy, who was expelled from USR on Monday.

According to the list presented in plenary, the 10 deputies are:

  • Ion Marian Lazar (ex-USR)
  • Daniel Sorin Gheba (ex-AUR)
  • Radu Tudor Ciornei (ex-USR)
  • Daniel Florea (ex-AUR)
  • Liviu Ioan Balint (ex-PNL)
  • Gheorghe Pecingină (ex-PNL)
  • Daniel Liviu Toda (ex-USR)
  • Cristian Paul Ichim (ex-USR)
  • Florica Ica Calotă (ex-AUR)
  • Apjok Norbert (ex-UDMR)

The deputy leader of the UDMR group of deputies Benedek Zacharie specified that Apjok Norbert was not a member of the formation, he being excluded from the year 2021.

“Mr. Apjok Norbert was not from the UDMR, he was excluded in February 2021. So he did not join this new political formation from the UDMR. Please make this change in the minutes”, said the deputy.

The former liberal Gheorghe Pecingină denied any connection of the party with the independent candidacy of Mircea Geoană in the presidential elections and explained the advantages of the association of independents in the DREPT party.

“I’m going to explain why or how we can help the independents with this platform. You know that the big problem of this category of candidates is representation in the polling stations. We can now, through the accession of the 10 deputies, ensure polling station observers for the two rounds of elections”, said Pecingină, quoted by Antena3.ro.

Marian Lazăr and Radu Ciornei were expelled from USR on Monday, September 2, after it was discovered that they were negotiating with other parties.
