The Dutch Elysian presented the E9X electric plane for 90 people, it has a battery with 360 Wh/kg

We have written about electric planes several times. For now, small two-seat eVTOLs are slowly moving into commercial operation, but there have also been several projects for larger aircraft with a capacity of around 10 seats. Dutch startup Elysian but they believe in much more. He presented an electric airplane E9Xwhich should accommodate up to 90 passengers, which is almost half of what classic low-cost aircraft such as Ryanair or WizzAir can accommodate.

This aircraft should have a guaranteed range of 800 km (the real one should therefore be significantly higher), which, for an idea, will fly from Prague to Denmark, the south of Sweden, the west of Ukraine (Lviv) or Romania (Temišvár), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo) , Croatia (Split), Italy (Florence, Bologna, Milan), Switzerland (Geneva), Belgium, Luxembourg or the Netherlands. This should be achieved with an 8-propeller concept and batteries with an energy density of 360 Wh/kg, which should be integrated into the wings (there are fuel tanks in today’s aircraft).

Better batteries with a longer range of up to 1,000 km are expected later, which should cover 50% of commercial flights. Again, to give you an idea, the 1000km radius from Prague will reach almost to Gothenburg in Sweden (and almost to Stockholm), it will cover Lithuania, the west of Ukraine and Romania (but to Kyiv or Bucharest the plane would only be able to do it from Ostrava or Brno), it will already reach Kosovo and Montenegro, in Italy to Rome and with a little luck to Naples, in France it will reach Marseille and Paris, London should also be able to handle it.

But it won’t be so soon. The startup expects to be put into operation in 2033. If it is realized at all (everything is still only on paper), does not go bankrupt, or the project does not change significantly, I would probably apply the “optimistic” extension of the estimate by half anyway, i.e. more likely the end of the 30s . And what about you, do you believe that in 15 years we will be flying 800-1000km routes with electric planes?
