The Dutch opera The Planet is presented in the quarry

The eerie story of the cursed sailor and his ghost ship has terrified sailors for centuries. The mystical tale inspired many artists, including Richard Wagner. But who is this planet Dutch? According to legend, a Dutch ship captain named Van Staaten, cursed for his ungodly lifestyle, was condemned to constantly wander the sea. You can never land permanently to find solace. Only one from under the curse lány’s faithful love until death can solve it. The legend lives on to this day among sailors more susceptible to mysticism. According to superstition, the appearance of a ghost ship is a bad omen, a sign of impending misfortune for those who meet it.

At the Dutch press conference of the planet

First at the press conference is István Ottrubay, az Esterházy Foundation its president greeted the participants, and then Daniel Serafin, the intendant of the Opera a köfföttőt, spoke:

In all probability, Wagner noticed the legend thanks to Heinrich Heine, and during his several-month trip to England, he was also able to experience the experience of sailing at sea with a special atmosphere. I am convinced that our audience will be captivated by this eerily romantic story this time as well – declared the intendant.

The works of stage and visual designer Momme Hinrichs are famous for in them the stage image and the projection form a perfect unity, so a total artistic work can always be created that is completely in harmony with the music and the action on stage. – I have long wanted to work in the quarry in Szentmargitbánya, to design a stage here. When I was a child, The Planet in Holland was my second opera experience, and it is still one of my favorite operas. We have to model the quarry on the rugged Norwegian fjords, which also tame the waves of the sea. In addition, a transformable house providing an exciting space for spectacular scenes will be on stage, and a ship will also enter the picture – Momme Hinrichs detailed the plans. Philipp M. Krenn, the director of the play, who is also an expert in the field of Wagner operas, said:

– For me, the quarry and the piece are an ideal match. The work is impressive in its entirety, because in addition to strength, anger and despair, longing, romance and love are present in it, all seasoned with a little humor, he said, and then continued: the performers stand, the resulting production is a joint creation of all of us. It is very important for the choir to be present on stage, and also for me to see what each singer’s voice is capable of, he added.
