Intel can make a nice mess in their CPUs and new line of CPUs Intel Core Ultra 200U looks quite mysterious. According to the specifications on Intel’s website, it should be the Arrow Lake series, but it has completely abandoned Hyper-Threading on P-Core, so the number of cores usually corresponds to the number of threads. But if we look at the most powerful model of the series, the Core Ultra 7 265U, it has 12 cores, but support for 14 threads. So there are 2 P-Cores, 8 energy-saving E-Cores and another 2 high-efficiency LP E-Cores. But Intel does not write on which architecture they are actually built. Since the number of cores and threads do not match, it looks like a refresh of the older Meteor Lake architecture, although the specifications mention Arrow Lake.
But the mystery of the new series does not end there. The 200HX and 200H series are manufactured using the TSMC N3B process, while Meteor Lake relies on the Intel 4 process. If it were a gentle refresh of Meteor Lake, we would probably assume Intel 4 as well, but there is still some shift, since the 200U is unlike 100U series produced by the more advanced Intel 3 process.
Intel thus allowed itself to increase the frequency of the chips even more significantly. While with the Core Ultra 7 165U we have base clocks of 0.7 / 1.2 / 1.7 GHz (LP E / E / P-Core), in the case of the Core Ultra 7 265U it is 0.7 / 1.7 / 2, 1 GHz. Turbo frequencies also increased, from 2.1 / 3.8 / 4.9 GHz to 2.4 / 4.2 / 5.3 GHz, i.e. roughly 300-400 MHz higher (about 11% more). That leaves 12MB cache, PBP at 15W and MTP at 57W.
Against the 100U, memory support is increased from 96 GB to 128 GB (but this is not reflected in the table, which states 96 GB for DDR5 and 64 GB for LPDDR5x), from DDR5-5600 to DDR5-6400, respectively. from LPDDR5X-7467 to LPDDR5X-8400, which are already the same values as Arrow Lake-H. The integrated Intel Graphics GPU with 4 Xe cores increases its frequency from 2.0 to 2.1 GHz, but here, on the other hand, the architecture corresponds to the Meteor Lake processors. The new processors also have an integrated Intel AI Boost NPU.
