Lawyer Maria Vasii said, in an intervention at The realitythat the canceled elections in Romania are no longer an internal matter. Vasii stated that the EU Ombudsman will refer the European Court of Justice, which will sue the Romanian state.
Also, the People’s Advocate will recommend the resumption of the 2nd round of the elections.
“.. We still don’t know what solution will be given, but we know the legal framework and the mechanism by which the EU Ombudsman can compel Romania to resume the elections. The decision to restart the first round is illegal. You cannot put Călin Georgescu back in the fight with all the competitors, because they will have an advantage. Today, the People’s Advocate informed us that he will give us an answer in 8 days. A decision will be made by the end of January.
In this procedure at the ECHR there is the possibility of imposing the resumption of round 2. The European Court of Justice is the one who will make the decision. Through these procedures, we honor the citizens and Călin Georgescu, because we deserve to have access to democratic instruments…”, explained the lawyer.
“…Today we were informed that we have 8 days to receive answers from the European Court of Justice. I assume that the infringement procedure will be opened against Romania. CCR must open an investigation to see who did this shameful fraud. This week it will be checked whether the voters’ rights have been respected. If not, we expect that at the end of the investigation, the violation of rights will be found”, said Maria Vasii.
