The winner of the Car of the Year 2025 title in Europe is the Renault 5, alongside its sportier counterpart, the Alpine A290. The French hatchback prevailed against some important competitors, including the Dacia Duster.
The Renault 5 (together with the Alpine A290) became the Car of the Year 2025. In a ceremony held at the start of the Brussels International Motor Show, which returns to public attention after the 2023 edition, the 60 members of the jury of The Car Of The Year gave their verdict on choosing the best car on the European car market.
Renault 5 was named the best car of 2025, beating six other competitors in the final: Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroën C3-ëC3, Cupra Terramar, Dacia Duster, Hyundai Inster and Kia EV3. This year’s edition was more competitive than ever, as all the finalist models had electrified engines, most of them being 100% electric.
Dacia Duster ranked 5th in the Car of the Year 2025 final
It is the second consecutive year that a Renault model has won the European Car of the Year title, after the Scenic E-Tech took the same title in 2024. It is the second time in the 62-year history of the Car of the Year award that a brand has taken the title in consecutive years. It was in 1995 and 1996 with the Fiat Punto and Fiat Bravo. Since then, this has not happened again.
After the verdict was given to the 23 countries, the Renault 5 was the most voted, with 353 points, beating the Kia EV3, which scored 291 points, followed by the Citroën C3-ëC3 with 215 points. Fourth place went to the Hyundai Inster (172 points), fifth, just four points behind, to the Dacia Duster (168 points), sixth to the Cupra Terramar (165 points) and seventh to the new Alfa Romeo Junior, which scored 136 points.
