The end for the BMW X3M with a petrol engine?

The X3M is over, long live the electric iX3M, that’s how the fate of the most extreme version of the popular SUV model goes

The new BMW X3 has arrived, it looks sharp, has an advanced interior and goes on sale later this year. But one thing that won’t be available on the new X3 is the hot M model we’ve seen in previous generations.

According to BMWBlog, BMW will not offer an M version of the new X3. The sportiest option will be the X3 M50 with a slightly improved version of the 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine. As for the M model, BMW will instead focus on the iX3 electric crossover.

That coincides with reports from 2022 that the high-performance SUV could go all-electric. The iX3M (or whatever it’s called) will use BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture for SUVs, and based on what we know about the platform, it’ll be quite powerful as it should have at least 600 horsepower.

With the demise of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the electric Porsche Macan, the market for high-performance compact luxury SUVs is shrinking.

No matter how much we believe and dare that there is hope, because BMW has not confirmed this report. But based on everything we know about the brand’s switch to electrification, one M model obviously counts for a little…
