The Ministry of Mining and Energy has announced the start of energy audits within the project “Energy rehabilitation of residential, multi-family buildings connected to the district heating system – Public ESCO project”. This initiative aims to increase energy efficiency and modernize multi-family residential buildings throughout Serbia.

It is foreseen by the project assessment of energy savings, determination of scope of work and rehabilitation costs for a total of 1.4 million square meters of living space. The planned measures include improvement of thermal insulation and installation of thermostatic valves on heating elements, which will significantly reduce energy consumption, while increasing living comfort.
As stated on the website of the Ministry, the project includes Belgrade, Novi Sad, Pančevo, Zrenjanin, Kragujevac, Negotin, Čačak, Trstenik, Užice, Kraljevo, Pirot, Vranje, Novi Pazar and Niš.
During the renovation, grants will cover the costs of energy audits, elaborations and appropriate studies, as well as 50% of the investment value. Apartment owners will pay the remaining 50% of the investment value in monthly installments that will be included in heating bills. The approximate repayment period is 10 years.
The first contracts with citizens should be signed in 2025, and the whole project is worthwhile 64.5 million euros. The funds were provided by the Ministry of Mining and Energy, the Government of Switzerland through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
