The engine of a Russian-made passenger plane caught fire after it landed at the airport in Antalya in southern Turkey, the Turkish Ministry of Transport announced.

The ministry announced that landings at the airport were suspended until three o’clock local time, Reuters reported.

All 89 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated from the Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane that arrived from the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, the ministry announced.

In a video shared on social media by the Haber Airport news site, emergency services can be seen responding to the scene of the fire, with flames and smoke coming from the plane’s engine.

Videos released by the transport ministry after the incident showed the plane under fire-fighting foam as firefighters continued to spray the left engine to cool it.

According to the Antalya airport website, the Azimut Airlines flight from Sochi landed at 18:25 GMT (19:25 CET).
