Tigran Barsejjan watches the goal joy of football players Dinamo Zagreb, who take an unequivocal victory from Bratislava.
Euphoria broke out in the stadium after a quick goal by Strelec, but it only lasted a moment, as Dario Špikič equalized in the 10th minute. Peter Sučič turned the score in Dinamo’s favor before the break. In the second half, the team from Zagreb confirmed its role as the favorite and conquered Tehelné pole with two goals from Sandro Kulenović.
In the incomplete table, Slovan is still in last place without a point gain. Belasých’s next match in the Champions League is on November 26 against AC Milan again at Tehelno polí.
Slovan led for the first time in the most prestigious competition after a goal by David Strelec, but the hosts only lasted five minutes. They went to the locker room with a score of 1:2 and after the initial pressure conceded two more goals. In the incomplete table, they have a score of 2:15 and are still among the six teams without a point.
The reigning Slovak champion had to do without several supports, including midfielder Juraj Kucka and defender Kevin Wimmer. Absences also plagued the guests, who were missing goalkeeper Ivan Nevistič and key striker Bruno Petkovič. Nevertheless, they were able to confirm their role as favourites, win for the second time in this year’s LM and, with seven points, come significantly closer to the premiership.
In this calendar year, Slovan will also face Atletico Madrid (December 11). Next year, he will meet at home with VfB Stuttgart (January 21), eight days later he will face Bayern Munich.

The guests were the first to create more pressure after a corner kick, but Slovan struck from the subsequent break. The ball was first given to Barsejgan, who found a completely free Marcelli. His attempt went through the goalkeeper Zagorac, the goal was first prevented by stopper Torrente, but Strelec took advantage of the chance in front of the open goal. A little later, the guests hesitated with a free kick by left defender Voet, but a moment later the hosts were too slow.
They let Špikič pass through the penalty area, who beat Takač with a ground shot to the near post. The game continued for some time in front of the home team’s goal, and Slovan was gradually getting into the attack. “Whites” passed easily through the middle of the field, but they could not combine in the end and lacked accuracy.
In the 28th minute, head referee Taylor checked a foul on Barsejjan, which would have meant a penalty for Slovan. However, VAR did not confirm the illegal intervention and the guests immediately struck when Sučič scored after Pjac’s cross. In the final quarter of the first half, the home team got into promising positions, but mostly they lacked accuracy.
After the break, Slovan ran at the opponent, Ignatenko aimed at the center of the goal and Tolič won the corner. However, after ten minutes of the half, Kulenovič scored – he received a pass from Pjac, which Ignatenko passed.
Just a moment later, Kašia fouled the escaping Pjaca for a yellow card, Baturina’s subsequent shot from a direct kick followed the wall and went into the corner. For the home team, Tolič still had a chance, but then Dinamo started to press. After a long combination, Kulenovič scored again from outside the box, and his team had other chances at the end, which they did not use.
actors’ voices /source: Nova Sport/:
Vladimír Weiss senior, coach of Slovan: “It’s a great shame because we played excellently at the beginning and took the lead. Then we gave away two goals to Zagreb, we got a stupid third goal. The opponent won it with its quality. The first half was very good from our side. However, we made naive mistakes in passing, which the opponent punished.”
Nenad Bjelica, Dinamo Zagreb coach: “Congratulations to all the players and people who are here with us today. I also congratulate our fans, it’s a great victory. We know we are on the right track and can continue to win games. In both halves, we had a stretch that the opponent used, but I had no doubt that we would get back into the game. We knew where we could threaten and attack the opponent, the players applied everything we told each other. “
Marko Tolič, captain of Slovan: “I have mixed feelings. We started the match well, we were good on the ball and didn’t push us as much as we expected. We scored the first goal and I felt good. After the VAR disallowed a penalty, they punished us. In the second half it he was only about Dinamo.”
Dávid Strelec, striker of Slovan and author of the goal: “I think we played bravely. We had a good start, we were winning 1:0, but we conceded an underdog goal. Then it was a pity that he didn’t whistle the penalty. Usually, when the referee goes to see it, he whistles. It’s also a shame about the third conceded goal from the break, which we wanted to play.”
Nino Marcelli, winger of Slovan: “I think we played the best game of all four so far. We left everything there and it’s a shame. We had some chances, we lost the match in efficiency.
