The European Union on Saturday launched a call to all parties to show the “greatest restraint” to avoid an “uncontrollable escalation” in the Middle East, after the Israeli strikes in Iran, reports AFP.

“The dangerous cycle of attacks and reprisals risks causing a new expansion of the regional conflict,” the EU warned in a statement.

“Recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense, the EU calls on all parties to show the greatest restraint to avoid an uncontrollable escalation, which is in no one’s interest,” added the bloc of 27, noting that the strikes took place in a context of “serious and growing regional tensions”.

“The EU remains fully determined to reduce tensions and contribute to de-escalation and, to this end, remains in close contact with all the actors involved,” the statement quoted by AFP also says.

Iran launched around 200 missiles at Israel on October 1, in which several hypersonic missiles were used for the first time. Israel has vowed to make Iran pay for this attack.
