The Sentinel-2C satellite from the European Union’s Copernicus program will participate in monitoring water quality and detecting methane emissions. It will also support the management of responses to natural disasters such as forest fires, earthquakes and floods.

According to the French company Arianespace, the launch from the Kourou complex was delayed by one day due to problems in the electrical distribution on the ground connections.

At the same time, the Guyana Space Center reminded on the X social network that it was the launch of the last mission of this type of Vega rocket from the European cosmodrome.

The Vega rocket was built by the Italian aviation company Avio and has been in operation since 2012. It is to be replaced by the more powerful Vega-C model. It has been grounded since 2022 after an accident that caused the loss of two Airbus-type satellites.
