In the first seven months of 2024, new car registrations increased by +10.64% to 96,562 units, compared to 87,275 units in the same period in 2023. This increase indicates an increased interest in purchasing new cars, despite monthly fluctuations.
In the segment of second-hand cars registered for the first time in Romania, the volume increased significantly in July 2024, reaching 31,216 units, +20.73% more than in July 2023. This substantial increase shows a growing preference of Romanian consumers for cars second-hand, which offers an attractive cost-benefit ratio.

Regarding the ranking of new car brands in the first seven months of 2024, Dacia leads the way with 29,635 registered units. Toyota ranks second with 8,275 units, followed by Renault with 6,571 units and Skoda with 6,416 units. Hyundai and Volkswagen complete the top with 5,930 and 5,528 units, respectively. Also, Ford, Mercedes, Suzuki and BMW are in the ranking, with 4,085, 3,209, 3,103 and 3,024 registered units respectively.
This evolution of new and second-hand car registrations reflects changes in consumer preferences and the dynamics of the car market in Romania. The drop since July 2024 for new cars can be seen as a temporary fluctuation, while the significant increase in used car registrations suggests a long-term trend. Analyzing these data, it is obvious that the car market in Romania continues to develop and adapt to consumer demands.
