The extra point for fastest lap is abolished from 2025

The FIA World Motor Sport Council decided this year to abolish the extra point awarded to the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race, as long as he is in the top 10 places.

The extra point of fastest lap was introduced in 2019 in an attempt to increase the spectacle, but it did not fulfill this aim, as it is only taken advantage of by those with a large gap to the car behind, putting on fresh tires to get the extra point.

At the same time, the FIA World Motor Sports Council doubled the number of free practice sessions for new drivers. So from 2025 teams will have to give FP1 to a new driver two weekends per car.
