THE MUSICAL “Zorba” will be performed for the first time in front of the Belgrade audience at the Terazije Theater on November 24, performed by the ensemble of the Knjaževsko-Serbian Theater.
The play, based on the work “Zorba the Greek” by Nikos Kazantsakis, is written by multiple award-winning authors Joseph Stein (text) John Kender (music), and the direction is entrusted to Polish director Witold Mazurkiewicz, who has extensive experience on European stages.
The story of Zorba, a wanderer who has his own outlook on life and fights life’s adversities with song and dance, became world famous thanks to the 1964 film starring Anthony Quinn. The musical “Zorba” arrived on Broadway in 1968, and despite critics’ assessments that it was too difficult for the stage, it had more than 300 performances, was nominated for a Tony Award and played for years on stages around the world.
In the play from Kragujevac, Saša Pilipović, Nenad Vulević, Jasmina Dimitrijević, Milica Majstorović, Ljubica Gašparović Jevtović, Aleksandar Milojević and others play.
