American skier Mikaela Shiffrin triumphed in the first slalom of the new World Cup season. In Levi, Finland, she claimed her 98th victory in the prestigious series and once again improved her record. Austrian Katharina Liensbergerová finished second, 79 hundredths behind the winner, German Lena Dürrová took third place (+0.83).

The phenomenal American celebrated a record eighth victory in this Finnish resort, Slovakian Petra Vlhová is second in historical statistics with six victories.

In slalom, Shiffrin already has 61 triumphs.

After the first lap, she had a lead of 60 hundredths ahead of Dürrová, in the second she was able to step up her performance.

She gained another lead at the top of the track, cornering flawlessly on the steep incline to achieve her 153rd career podium.

“I was afraid of what the conditions would be like, I had to be careful about unevenness. It wasn’t a clean ride, but I kept my pace. I’m looking forward to another victory,” said Shiffrin after the race to a reporter from the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS).

Slovakian Petra Vlhová did not start, she is still rehabilitating after a knee injury in January. She would like to return to the slopes in December.
