Google Maps recently added features to help drivers avoid speeding tickets, including a speedometer and speed limit signs, for iOS and CarPlay users.
These features have been available on Android since 2019 and on Waze since 2016. Now, iPhone users can also benefit from these features to monitor travel speed in real time.
Enabling Speedometer and Speed Limits in Google Maps
To enable these features, follow the steps below:
1) Open Google Maps and access settings by tapping on your profile picture.
2) Go to the “Settings” section.
3) Select “Browse.”
4) Activate the speedometer and speed limit indicators.
5) Scroll to the “Show Map” section.
6) Enable options for speedometer and speed limit indicators.
Using speed features in Google Maps
After enabling these features, the speedometer will appear in the lower left corner of the screen. If you exceed the speed limit, the speedometer will change color to warn you to slow down.
Google emphasizes on its support page that the speedometer in Google Maps is for informational purposes only and should not be used as a substitute for the actual speedometer of the car.
