A meeting was held today in Kragujevac where plans were defined for future exploitation, innovative, creative and digital content of the third phase of the State Data Center through the construction of the Innovation District.
Within the district, there will be the fifth Science and Technology Park in Serbia, business incubators, startups, a smart city center for the development of smart energy systems, a center for the promotion of digitization and a section for bioinformatics and bioengineering with space for research and laboratories. The entire complex is one of the most valuable and significant state capital investments and will be an important incentive for new future investments, creation of new jobs and additional economic growth of Serbia.
In addition to Dr. Mihailo Jovanović, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment and Nikola Dašić, Mayor of Kragujevac, the meeting was attended by representatives of the University of Kragujevac, the Fund for Science and Economy.
– In the next three years, about 35,000 m² of Innovation District will be built in Kragujevac, which will consist of three buildings: the central building, which will represent the “heart” of the district and two buildings intended for users of the State Data Center, Jovanović explained. The Government of the Republic of Serbia, for the purposes of creating districts in the period from 2025 to 2027, in the budget proposal for 2025, provided a net amount of around 55 million euros.
The innovation district in Kragujevac is one of the key strategic projects of the innovation infrastructure of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, which is implemented by the Office for IT and eGovernment and is a logical continuation of the construction of the State Data Center. Its construction is part of the “Leap into the future – Serbia 2027” program as part of plans for further modernization, digitization and construction of innovation infrastructure, as well as the integral development of Serbia, Jovanović added, adding that the first building of the Innovation District will be completed in 2025. .
The state data center and everything that has been done so far has a great resonance among the professional public, private companies and countries in the world. Our data center is among the first eight with this level of protection and one of the ten that have signed a contract with CERN.
-Further development of the State Data Center through the Innovation District will go in the direction of engaging science, but also the innovative ideas of individuals and will represent a kind of science and technology park for IT. Everything that is important for IT technologies in our country is now presented in Kragujevac as part of state visits, which positions us both as a city and as a country on the digital map of Europe – said Nikola Dašić, mayor of Kragujevac.
