The first images of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra reveal a novel approach to the camera system

As Xiaomi prepares to launch the new 15 and 15 Pro models this month, fans are eagerly awaiting the star of the series: the 15 Ultra model. It is scheduled to appear in early 2025.

As expected, they did information about the new model before the official debut. Except, in this case, they have something much more intriguing in common than the rumored specs.

Design

The first unofficial images of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, revealed by known leaker Yogesh Brar and the website Smartprix, show a device available in two color variants: black and silver/white.

What catches the eye, however, is the circular module of the cameras, which presents an original organization of the four sensors.

The Leica branding makes its presence felt on the upper left side of the module, while the Xiaomi logo is placed vertically on the lower left side of the phone.

Photo system

The most important improvement is the periscope zoom camera, which uses a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor with a size of 1/1.4 inch and 4.3x optical zoom, having an aperture of f/2.6. It’s a big leap from the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

The system is completed by three other cameras of 50 megapixels each: one main (with Sony sensor), another ultrawide and a third 2x telephoto lens.

For selfies, the device will be equipped with a 32-megapixel front camera.

Top specs

The phone does not compromise on the hardware either, being equipped with a 6.7-inch micro quad-curved LTPO screen, with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Inside, the new model will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and the operating system will be the new HyperOS 2.0, based on Android 15.

Autonomy and charging

The generous 6,000mAh battery promises not good, but very good autonomy. It is supported by 90W wired and 80W wireless fast charging technologies.

Release and Availability

Although it’s not long until the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro debut, fans of the brand will have to wait until February 2025 for the Ultra model.

It will be available in several memory configurations, going up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. However, there will be no microSD card expansion.

Will the unusual camera arrangement please users or cause controversy? Only time will tell.
