The first incidents. AUR and USR accuse

AUR will file a criminal complaint against Foreign Minister Luminiţa Odobescu for the “irregularities found in the voting stations in the diaspora”. The party believes that the system is “preparing a massive fraud of the presidential elections”.

According to a press release from the AUR, at the polling station in Watford, Great Britain, “when a package of ballots was opened that was sealed and was not walked around, several already stamped ballots were discovered”.

“They all had the stamp of one of the independent candidates registered in the electoral race. However, the Watford case is not unique. This dirty tactic demonstrates the desperation of a system that feels it is losing ground. Instead of playing fair, the army of the writer-soldier resorts to manipulations and attempts at fraud to stay in power,” the communiqué reads.

AUR also claims that “by means of the MAE, the ballots, the control stamp and the stamps with the mention “VOTE”, the forms for concluding the minutes and other materials necessary for the electoral process are distributed to the polling stations abroad”.

“Therefore, either the MFA is responsible for the integrity of the ballots that have arrived in the diaspora (if the ballots have already left Romania pre-stamped), or the members of the electoral offices (if the fraud by pre-stamping occurred directly in the section). That is precisely why the AUR will file a criminal complaint against the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminiţa Odobescu, for the irregularities found in the voting stations in the diaspora. We request the General Prosecutor’s Office to proceed urgently to pick up the audio-video recordings from the Watford section (Great Britain) in order to identify if the falsification took place there, as well as to urgently prepare an address to the Minister of Foreign Affairs requesting detailed information regarding the concrete measures taken in order to ensure a legal electoral process”, the quoted press release states.

The same source claims that “the moment of the falsification must be urgently identified and at the same time the extent of this phenomenon”, so that “the electoral process can continue democratically”.

“Electoral fraud is a crime against democracy, and the events in the diaspora show that the integrity of the elections is at risk. If such irregularities are discovered now, in the early stages of the electoral process, what can we expect to happen on voting day in the country? Romania can no longer afford to be taken hostage by dirty political games. It is time for the electoral authorities to intervene firmly and investigate these irregularities. Any attempt at fraud must be exposed and sanctioned, and those responsible held accountable. We appeal to all citizens to be vigilant and report any irregularities found in the electoral process. Also, we ask the competent authorities to act quickly and transparently to ensure the correctness of the vote”, the quoted statement also states.

USR accuses liberal minister Cătălin Predoiu of using the Romanian Police to “censor the Internet” and “intimidate voters”. The formation claims that, a few hours before the start of the vote, there were “several cases of abuse by the Police in many cities and counties in Romania.”

“Specifically, the police went to the homes of USR members and sympathizers, but also to voters, citizens without political affiliation, or even called their parents to punish them for posting on Facebook. For example, in Timisoara, a USR member woke up with the police at the door and was sanctioned for sharing a post of a USR MEP. There are similar cases in Brasov and Bucharest, where it was reported to us that USR sympathizers either received phone calls from the Police or were sanctioned”, states USR in a press release.

Thus, the USR asks the PNL minister Cătălin Predoiu “to stop, at the last hour, these intimidation tactics”.

“The Romanian police have more to do with criminals, not with people who share messages on Facebook,” the cited statement states.

“It is unacceptable that the Romanian Police is monitoring Elena Lasconi’s supporters a few hours before the vote. It is a despair for the PNL because, as they also know, their candidate fails to enter the second round. I urge all Romanians to come and vote! Let’s stop the era of these privileged people, the era of democracy with epaulettes”, said Cristian Seidler, USR deputy and USR electoral campaign coordinator.
