The first statements of Călin Georgescu, the surprise candidate from the presidential elections

Immediately after the end of the voting process, on Sunday evening, at 21:00, the independent Călin Georgescu, called the surprise of these elections, thanked those who voted for him, adding that “we were many to vote and we will also be many to vote and in the second round”.

Asked what he will do if he does not reach the second round and who he will vote for, Călin Georgescu said that “the Romanian people, when they are sure, will win. He will win for sure”.

Marcel Ciolacu: It was a vote for things that matter

“I thank all those who gave me their vote and trust today. Their vote was a positive vote for balance and stability. It was a vote for things that matter. And above all, I would like to thank all the Romanians who overcame this campaign and were not discouraged by this campaign. Regarding the result of today’s vote, one thing is extremely clear to me: behind the result obtained by each of the candidates are the Romanians, regardless of their political option. And I will take into account the Romanians’ opinion. And I think that in the next period I will have to talk with each candidate to gather all the good proposals from their electoral programs”, says Marcel Ciolacu.

He states that he and his colleagues ran “a campaign without hate”.

“I will continue in the second round in the same way. This result confirms that we have done the right thing for the country, from the increase of visitors to highways, regional hospitals, and more recently, the accession to the Schengen area. Finally, I would like to appeal to all our representatives in the polling stations. To count all the votes cast by Romanians. And I really want to appeal to them not to leave the polling stations until the last ballot and the last vote cast by the Romanians are counted. Tonight I think that the winners are Romanians. This is what a democracy should look like”, concludes Ciolacu.

Lasconi: Next week I will speak with all right-wing forces for a parliamentary majority

“I want to thank all Romanians who voted today. Hope is alive in Romania. I want to thank all those who voted for me and let you know that for me every vote is a responsibility”, said Elena Lasconi, at the end of the voting process, on Sunday evening.

“I want to thank my colleagues and volunteers who knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, talked to millions of Romanians during this entire period, in the pre-campaign and in the electoral campaign,” she added.

She was reserved in drawing conclusions: “Let’s enjoy tomorrow. But great attention in all polling stations, with each ballot. Every vote counts. It is essential to stay there and defend the Romanians’ votes. And when I say this, I mean all the delegates from all political parties, not just the delegates from the USR”.

Lasconi thanked Ludovic Orban for his support, but also the Forţa Dreptei, PMP and REPER parties. “Thank you for this support. (…) The Romanians have shown this and, basically, today’s vote is a no-confidence motion on the part of the Romanians that they do not want a PSD government. From the exit polls we have seen so far, practically 75% of Romanians voted otherwise, not with PSD”.

She mentioned the parliamentary elections, saying that “we need a government that will really reform Romania. Next year will be a very difficult year.
Next week I will talk to all the right-wing forces and all the democratic forces in this country to prepare for a parliamentary majority. It is very important to have a parliamentary majority”.

Simon

“I’m going to ask you to turn off the televisions, especially those that show an unknown person before us. The manipulation could only last until here, until the first urn with Romanian votes was opened”, said George Simion, immediately after the results of the exit polls.

He asked those in the polling stations to “observe any strange movement around the polling stations” and to take seriously “the defense of the vote expressed today by the Romanians”.

“Tonight, in addition to entering the 2nd round, something else is happening: Mr. Florian Coldea is going home for good. We are the biggest threat to this system which today violated the electoral rules”, added Simion.

He said that throughout the day he saw “people entering the voting booth two by two, we saw votes that were pre-stamped, let’s see what will come out of the ballot boxes, because we know that we rely on 2 millions of voters”.
