Seven years after VAR technology was introduced by almost all the strongest European leagues, video technology for the first time influenced a goal to be recognized in Montenegro.

It was Dečić’s historic first goal in the Champions League qualification, scored by Asmir Kajević in the return match against TNS under Gorica (1:1).

The “ten” of the Montenegrin champion shot strongly, the ball bounced off the crossbar behind the back of Connor Roberts, the assistant referee did not react, and even the main referee Atila Karaoglan from Turkey did not have a clock that in such situations indicates whether the ball crossed the line or not, did not react is VAR.

After reviewing the footage in the VAR room, Karaoglan pointed to the center – Kajević tied the score at 1:1.

From this season, UEFA has decided that VAR will be used from the first round of qualification for the Champions League and Europa League, as well as from the third round of qualification for the Conference League.

VAR appeared for the first time under Gorica in September 2021 at the match between the national teams of our country and Latvia in the World Cup qualifiers in Qatar…

There were decisions then and later that he confirmed, such as Adam Marušić’s offside in the match with Latvia or when he did not react after the foul on Marko Vešović in the Euro 2024 qualifier against Serbia, after which Dušan Vlahović scored for 1:0.

However, tonight he changed the referee’s decision for the first time and conceded a goal that the referees did not award.
