The first Xbox handheld is ready, but Microsoft has little to do with it –

Built by a dedicated modder using the original Xbox as a base.

If the insiders divulging Microsoft’s plans are not mistaken, then the people of Redmond are expected to run with two pieces of hardware for the next, now tenth generation of consoles. However, we can expect an important difference, because while the successor of the Xbox Series X will have its home in the living room in the same way as every single console from the green before it, the machine that replaces the Xbox Series S is already designed to be compatible with the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and provide an experience similar to other handheld consoles.

However, we are still years away from that, and considering how quickly trends follow each other in the video game industry, we cannot even rule out that the generational change from Microsoft will look completely different than we currently assume.

Contrary to the alleged handheld console of the Redmonds, the machine is real, and what’s more, it works, which was put together by an enthusiastic modder and Xbox fan, a certain Redherring32, based on the first Xbox, which debuted back in 2001. To do this, with several months of work, using dozens of unique printed circuits designed specifically for the project, he transformed the motherboard of the sixth generation console so that it could accommodate the new machine housing, which he equipped with a 9-inch display with 480p resolution. The handheld console also received Wi-Fi 6 support so that you can play multiplayer anywhere, and the modder even solved fast charging.

Redherring32 clearly did not embark on this project to make money with it, in the spirit of the GitHub made public the blueprints, the complete guide and everything else that is necessary to copy it with sufficient competence and possibly perfect the concept.
