The RS-26 Rubezh is a Russian land-launched medium-range ballistic missile. The system is characterized by high accuracy and maneuverability, which significantly increases the probability of hitting the target. The missile can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads. Its primary goal is to break through enemy missile defense systems and destroy critical infrastructure. The Rubezh missile plays an important role in Russia’s strategic nuclear deterrent capabilities, and thanks to modernization, the accuracy and effectiveness of the system are constantly being improved. However, the exact specifications are secret.
U.S. officials have stressed that Russia cannot intimidate Ukraine, the United States or other countries that are helping Kiev repel a Russian invasion. The United States will continue to supply air defense systems, ammunition and other military equipment to Ukraine.
Putin has officially amended his country’s nuclear doctrine, which allows for a nuclear strike if Russia is attacked by a non-nuclear state backed by a nuclear power. But analysts say the likelihood of Russia using nuclear weapons is slim, especially now that the Russian military is advancing and Ukrainian forces are depleted. The use of longer-range weapons provided to Ukraine by the West may increase Kiev’s capabilities, but analysts say it will not fundamentally change the situation on the front.
As our paper also reported, Russia attacked Ukraine with a ballistic missile in response to the strike devices authorized by Joe Biden. According to the United States of America, the missile is the RS-26 Rubezh experimental modelwhich can also carry a nuclear warhead. Russia notified US authorities before the attack.
