In Europe, the Polish stock exchange is closed in addition to the Hungarian one, but there is also a bank holiday in France and Italy. This means that for example
they continue to work in important financial centers (London, Frankfurt),
and with the help of this, the forint returned to below 408 against the euro from around 408.5 on Friday morning. Thus, it was able to strengthen further from yesterday’s level of 409.6, which was almost a new two-year forint low.
We examined the forint market movements in two separate analyses:
The euro/dollar has been around 1.0875 since last night, so the dollar/forint exchange rate is stuck around 375.5 on the interbank market.
Due to the clock adjustment, the important US labor market data will arrive at 2:30 this afternoon (number of new non-agricultural jobs, unemployment rate, hourly wages), which can have a significant impact on the Fed’s interest rate policy, and thus also on the HUF.
