The Ferrari 456 GT It is one of the most beautiful 2+2 coupés of all time. In defining its lines for Pininfarina, the architect Pietro Camardella was divinely inspired. The style of this grand tourer has a magnetic charm. No car of the same species has managed to replicate its splendor, even if in terms of performance the FF and GTC4 Lusso have pushed themselves further. Here, however, we are talking about aesthetics. Looking at it, you almost have the impression of being in the presence of a car with two dry seats, but the passenger compartment offers space for a higher number of passengers.
The blend of elegance and sportiness is impeccable, expressed in a graphic canvas where harmony is at home. The model’s design unfolds with extraordinary fluidity. No one would ever think of changing the look of the Ferrari 456 GT, but in all human things there is the classic exception that proves the rule. A New Zealand engineer, in fact, has transplanted the nose of the Nissan Silvia S14a rear spoiler and some other graphic elements different from the original ones. The rims have also been changed.
This mix of interventions would already be enough to raise an outcry of scandal, but the blasphemy was completed with the replacement of the original V12 with the rotary engine of a Mazda. At this point I imagine the hives produced in the enthusiasts of the “prancing horse”. The history of the specimen does not mitigate the sin. The transformation process in fact started from a wreck, without an engine, of the Ferrari 456 GT, which had been rotting for 6 years in an abandoned lot.
The human protagonist of our story decided to buy the car, for a paltry sum. Starting from the terrible state of the Emilian sports car, he took a different path than the traditional restoration, which was also demanding in terms of costs. Rather than looking for a new V12 engine, he preferred to use a much more affordable rotary engine. Mazda 13BThe front end of a Nissan Silvia S14 encapsulates it, chosen to shape the new front end.
The result? A car with a confused style, light years away from the expressive purity of the initial design of the Ferrari 456 GT. The red paint chosen for the bodywork seems to match the color of the faces of Ferrari enthusiasts, at the sight of this genetic monstrosity. Several participations in events and tests of driftingwhere the specimen has polarized opinions, with a clear prevalence of negative ones, I imagine.
