Garbine Muguruza married the millionaire who ran into her, by chance, on the street

Garbine Muguruza and Arthur Borges met by pure chance in 2021, while the athlete was participating in the Grand Slam tournament at the US Open (New York). In a scene straight out of a romance movie, he recognized her on the street and wished her continued success in the competition across the ocean, and the rest came naturally. Three years later, the two got engaged last year in Marbella, and the wedding took place at the same venue on October 5.

In an interview given to the publication ¡Hola!, one of the two magazines that published photos from their wedding, Muguruza characterized in a few words the purely accidental meeting with the future husband, but also the lightning idyll cut from a “total movie”.

“It’s a total movie. I knew I was going to marry him even before he proposed. When we met, it was love at first sight and we realized very quickly that we were an ideal couple,” said Garbine Muguruza.

Garbine Muguruza received congratulations from to his former colleagues from the WTA circuitamong whom we mention Ons Jabeur, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Garcia. His former doubles partner, Carla Suarez Navarro, and his coach, Conchita Martinez, were among the guests present at the happy event.

He retired from tennis at the age of 30. “New chapter in my life”

In the spring of this year, Muguruza announced her retirement from the WTA circuitafter not competing for more than a year. In June, she was announced as the new director of the season-ending WTA Finals Riyadh tournament, becoming the first former champion of the prestigious event to hold the position.

“It’s time to say goodbye, it’s been a long, beautiful career full of moments and anecdotes. I feel that the time has come to retire, to open a new chapter in my life. I realized that what I want most is to follow my new chapter, not the one related to tennis”, said Garbine Muguruza in a press conference, according to As.com.

The Iberian tennis player has, among others, the title at Roland Garros (2016), Wimbledon (2017) and the Tournament of Champions (2021).
