The sky fell in the hour before qualifying for the Formula 1 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, so much so that qualifying started late. Due to the changed weather conditions, it was not even possible to say that the sprinting McLaren or the equally fast Red Bull could have a better chance for the pole position.
However, there was no room for taking chances. Due to the heavy rainfall and poor visibility, they initially postponed the start of the time trial, but after waiting for 1 hour and 45 minutes, dangerously close to sunset, they decided to are postponed the circling.
By the way, the International Automobile Association’s plan is to replace the event on Sunday morning local time, but there is no official information yet. The situation is not made easier by the fact that the meteorologists are predicting heavy rains for Sunday as well, so it will not be easy to hold the postponed time trial, even regardless of the track’s schedule.
In the absence of a timer, the starting grid of the race is also questionable, because there was no precedent for such a thing on a sprint weekend, and the rules do not clarify how the starting order should be determined in such a case.
The 2024 Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sao Paulo is scheduled to start on Sunday at 18:00 Hungarian time.
