During the period from July 9 to December 31 by the LENOKS society. IKCAVA, as part of cultural orientation courses and integration events for citizens of Ukraine, implemented the “Friend’s Shoulder” project. The total amount of funding for the project amounted to 52,992.45 euros, as reported on the municipal portal.
The goal of the project is to promote the integration of the Ukrainian population in Latvia, socialization in the Latvian environment, acquaintance with cultural traditions, history, and crafts. It was important to provide emotional, informative and legal support, as well as to promote the desire to learn the Latvian language.
During the project, various events were held, such as cultural orientation courses “We walk together hand in hand”, during which participants visited several city and regional objects – the Daugavpils Local History and Art Museum, the Daugavpils Theater and Stalkers Park, the Rothko Museum and the Engineering Arsenal . In order to get to know Latvia, three excursions and trips were organized to Riga, Jurmala, Sigulda, Bauska, Rundali, Preilim and Aglona. These trips gave Ukrainian citizens the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Latvia and learn about its history.
Activities for children were also organized as part of the project. The felting master class “Felt Toys” received particular interest and response. The fairy tale “The Wolf and the 7 Little Goats” and a master class, during which adults were also involved in the work. Making the Ukrainian belt Kraika un prievītes provided an opportunity to get in touch with both Latvian and Ukrainian traditions and learn various weaving techniques.
Participation in the torchlight procession organized in Daugavpils on November 11 received a great response. Most of the project participants took part in such an event for the first time.
At the end of the project, an event “From Heart to Heart” was held, where all project participants, in the atmosphere of the winter holidays, reported on the work done during the project.
