The summer break is over, it’s time for the Moto GP to return! Discover the full programme for the Silverstone GP.
New crossover between motor sports. F1 begins its summer break, while the Moto GP championship returns from vacation! The drivers have a date for the 10th round of the championship, in Great Britainon the Silverstone circuit, one of the cradles of the automobile. It is also on this circuit that Formula 1 was born. It was registered for the first time on the Moto GP calendar in 1977.
Moto GP: a very tight championship
In the premier class, the drivers will set off for 20 laps on the 5.9 km British circuit. One of the longest on the calendar. The track has 10 right-hand turns and 8 left-hand turns and a longer straight of 770 m. Last year, it was the Spanish driver Aleix Espargaró who won in Great Britain. During the last Grand Prix, he had to withdraw due to a broken hand.
After the last nine Grand Prix, it is currently the Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning champion, who leads the championship. Riding his official Ducati, he currently has a 10-point lead over his closest direct competitor, the Spanish rider Jorge Martin. Just before the break, Francesco Bagnaia was on a good run, having won the last four races, in Catalonia, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany. Better still, the Italian rider has won six of the nine races already contested in the championship. Already a two-time champion, the Ducati rider is thus on his way to a third title in a row, even if nothing is decided yet and there are still many stages to go before Moto GP designates its future champion.
Jorge Martin, king of the sprint but struggling in the race
If, as we said above, Jorge Martin is only 10 points behind the championship leader, the runner-up was left with a bad impression before the break. While he was leading the race at the German Grand Prix, the “Martinator” as he is sometimes nicknamed, fell two laps from the end. Worse still, he let the victory slip away to his direct competitor in the world championship, Francesco Bagnaia. Over the first nine stages, the Spanish rider won two races and four sprint races.
Another Spanish rider is also causing a sensation in Moto GP. It is none other than Marc Marquez, already 7 times champion of the category. Riding his Ducati from the Gresini team, he has accustomed us to spectacular comebacks in races this season. If he succeeds in his qualifying session, he will undoubtedly be able to claim a victory on the Silverstone circuit. His best race result so far in this 2024 edition of the Moto GP championship is second position.
For the French riders, the matter is already more complicated. Whether it is Fabio Quartararo or Johann Zarco, they are far from the top places in the first nine Moto GP Grand Prix. A surge on English soil?
