Mazda has been out of the electric car market until now, because the MX-30’s range of less than 200 kilometers has not been sufficient according to customers. That will finally change when the Mazda6e arrives in Finland in the summer of 2025.
Advance sales start already in the spring, and the sales can be quite reasonable. The prices of a big five-door hatchback start at less than 45 000 euros.
We wrote last fall From Mazda6 to history, when the story of combustion engines ended. We already revealed at that time that the model name is not disappearing, but that its journey will continue as an electric car. Surprisingly, Mazda presented its new product at the beginning of January at the Brussels Motor Show. There is a lot of history in the lines of the body, but it is still being developed.
The interior is quite reasonable, as the 4,921 meter long Mazda6e has a wheelbase of 2,895 meters. Air resistance is said to be low, although no official value is given. An active rear spoiler helps with aerodynamics. The only surprise is the small 330 liter size of the reasonably shaped trunk. When the back seat is not in use, the space increases to more than a cubic meter. In front, the trunk is 70 liters in size.
The interior of the Mazda6e is designed according to the Japanese concept of Ma, which means simplicity and open space. Two equipment levels are coming, of which the basic Takumi model already has black or beige artificial leather upholstery. Takumi Plus brings suede nappa cloth upholstery and an electric roof curtain.
In front of the driver is a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel and a large augmented reality windshield reflection screen. In the center of the dashboard is a 14.6-inch touchscreen. Among other things, it will include the image of the new Occupancy Monitoring interior camera, which can be used to monitor, for example, children in the back seat. When leaving the car, the system reminds you not to forget the youngest members of the family in the car.
The Mazda6e will be sold in Europe with two powertrains, only one of which has been selected for Finland. Both have an electric motor at the back, which in the version coming to us has a power of 190 kilowatts, and the maximum torque is 320 newton meters. The energy content of the driving battery is 68.8 kilowatt-hours, with a range (wltp) of 479 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with a power of 200 kilowatts, with which raising the energy level between 10 and 80 percent takes 22 minutes. In the Long Range version sold elsewhere in Europe, the range is 73 km longer, but the fast charging power is only 95 kW.
Mazda6e pricing will be confirmed in spring 2025, when pre-sales will begin. Then we will definitely also tell you what comprehensive equipment means in practice in addition to what was said above. But at least the heat pump is part of the standard equipment.
