In addition to hypersonic missile launchers, there are also hypersonic missile launchers on board the USS Zumwalt two towers equipped with 155 mm gunsknown as the Advanced Gun System. Special LRLAP (Long Range Land Attack Projectile) ammunition was also designed for them, allowing them to fire at objects distant up to 150 kilometers.
The precision of the hit is impressive. The bullets hit a circle with a diameter of 50 meters from the point marked in the system. This means that they allow you to attack the enemy according to the principle: “one shot – one target destroyed”. USS Zumwalt is the first in a series of stealth destroyers for the US Navy, which entered service in 2016. Of the 28 planned so far, apart from USS Zumwalt, only two stealth destroyers have been built: USS Michael Monsoor DDG-1001 i USS Lyndon B. Johnson DDG-1002.
In 2022, the USS Zumwalt was spotted in the western Pacific then moored in the port of Yokosuka in Japanwhere he stayed for several weeks. Probably, with its presence close to China, the Pentagon wanted to send a warning signal to the authorities in Beijing that the US constantly has its finger on the pulse.
On August 1, 2023, Zumwalt set sail for its new home port at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where it is currently undergoing modernization. New launchers are being installed on its board. The ship is to be ready in two years. However, the unit remains fully ready to take part in a war with Russia or China if one suddenly breaks out.
